Sofahub Milton Button-Tufted Plush Velvet 2 Seater Sofa in Silver

Short on space but not on comfort? The Sofahub Milton Button-Tufted Plush Velvet 2 Seater Sofa gives two people a proper seat in a footprint that suits studios, spare rooms, nurseries-turned-offices and compact living rooms. It is upholstered in velvet in silver. Velvet has a dense, soft pile that catches the light and gives a room a more finished, upholstered look. It rewards a little regular care and feels noticeably plusher than a flat weave.

Foam padding does the work in the seat and back, keeping the cushions plump and supportive. The frame is described as solid wood, which is what holds a sofa square and stops it creaking or sagging as the years go by. Button or tufted detailing on the back gives it a more traditional, tailored look. Listed seat depth is 45cm and seat height 45cm, which means a more upright, easy-to-stand-up-from seat. Maximum load is listed at 500kg.

Two-seater sofas like this one are chosen for comfort first: the cushioning, the seat depth and the upholstery matter more than any single extra, and the specification table sets out the details for this model.

Day to day, a two-seater is the sofa you actually end up sitting on: it takes two people, or one person with a laptop and a blanket, and it leaves the rest of the room free for a coffee table, a desk or a play area.

It is listed as 2 seater. Expect to do a little assembly; instructions and fixings are supplied. Tape its footprint on the floor, then measure the front door, hallway and any stairs so there are no surprises on delivery day.

Product photos are taken in controlled lighting, so expect the colour and texture to look a touch different in your own room at different times of day. It suits first homes, rented flats, spare rooms and home offices, and works well as a second sofa in a larger room.

Care guide

How to care for your silver velvet two-seater sofa

A sofa is a big purchase, so a little regular care goes a long way. These steps are written for the velvet on this sofa; always check the care label on the sofa itself first and test any cleaner on a hidden patch.

1. Brush the pile weeklyUse a soft clothes brush or the upholstery attachment on low suction, moving in one direction, to keep the pile even and lift dust before it works in.
2. Blot, do not scrubDab spills with a clean white cloth straight away. Scrubbing can crush and mark velvet, and coloured cloths can transfer dye onto a pale sofa.
3. Keep it away from steam and heatHot irons and steam cleaners can flatten or water-mark velvet. If a crease needs help, hold a steamer well clear of the surface or ask a professional upholstery cleaner.
4. Plump and rotateGive the seat and back cushions a good plump once a week, and where cushions are loose swap their positions now and then so wear spreads evenly.
5. Keep it away from heat and strong sunRadiators, fires and a window that gets all-day sun fade and dry out upholstery. A gap from heat sources and a curtain or blind at the brightest hours keeps the colour true for longer.
6. Know when to call a professionalIf the sofa is badly stained or the label says professional cleaning only, an upholstery cleaner will know what is safe for the fabric. It costs far less than replacing the sofa, and always test any product on a hidden area first.
