HOMCOM 212cm 3 Seater Sofa with Spring Cushions in Grey

The HOMCOM 212cm 3 Seater Sofa with Spring Cushions is a three-seater sofa that does what a living-room sofa should: seats the household comfortably, anchors the room and gives guests somewhere proper to sit. It is upholstered in corduroy in grey. Corduroy has a ribbed pile that looks warm and textured, hides everyday marks better than a smooth weave and feels soft against bare arms. It is one of the most popular living-room upholstery choices in the UK right now.

Foam filling gives the seat and back their shape and bounce, so the sofa does not slump after a few weeks. The listing mentions spring support under the seat, which adds a lively, supportive bounce. With a listed seat depth of 56cm and a seat height of 45cm, you get a balanced seat that works for both sitting up and relaxing back. Maximum load is listed at 450kg.

Practical extras listed include scatter cushions or pillows, so remotes, phones, drinks and blankets all have somewhere to go.

It is the standard size for a main living room because it balances seating for a family with a footprint that still leaves space to walk around it. Grey is the colour most UK living rooms are built around, which makes grey easy to pair with rugs, curtains and wall colours you already own.

The listing quotes a width of 212cm. The listed dimensions are 212 x 80 x 88 cm; always measure your own space against the specification table as well. It is listed as 3 seater. Expect to do a little assembly; instructions and fixings are supplied. Allow for the walk in as well as the final spot: doorways, stairs and tight hallway corners are where sofas get stuck.

The colour in the photographs is a guide: lighting and screens differ, so judge the shade from the colour name and the photos together. It suits the main living room of a family home, where the sofa has to seat everyone at once and cope with daily use.

Care guide

How to care for your grey corduroy three-seater sofa

A sofa is a big purchase, so a little regular care goes a long way. These steps are written for the corduroy on this sofa; always check the care label on the sofa itself first and test any cleaner on a hidden patch.

1. Vacuum with the ribsOnce a week, run a soft upholstery brush attachment along the length of the ribs rather than across them. This lifts dust and crumbs out of the grooves without flattening the pile.
2. Blot spills, never rubPress a clean, dry cloth onto a spill straight away to lift it. Rubbing drives liquid down into the ribs and can leave a shiny, flattened patch.
3. Spot clean carefullyFor a mark that blotting has not shifted, use a cloth barely dampened with mild soapy water, test a hidden corner first, and let it dry naturally rather than with a hairdryer.
4. Plump and rotateGive the seat and back cushions a good plump once a week, and where cushions are loose swap their positions now and then so wear spreads evenly.
5. Keep it away from heat and strong sunRadiators, fires and a window that gets all-day sun fade and dry out upholstery. A gap from heat sources and a curtain or blind at the brightest hours keeps the colour true for longer.
6. Know when to call a professionalIf the sofa is badly stained or the label says professional cleaning only, an upholstery cleaner will know what is safe for the fabric. It costs far less than replacing the sofa, and always test any product on a hidden area first.
